Of course, you need to know what you want you need to have an intention. Many people drift through life with no idea where they are going. Like a ship without a navigator, they sail along, sometimes with a great deal of energy - the engines may be flat out! - but with no clear vision for the future. To know where you are heading is one of the key prerequisites for success. Napoleon Hill said it, Og Mandino said it, Steven Covey said it. In fact, all of the great thinkers and writers on success have emphasized the importance of knowing where you are heading.
Many people have dreams - they fantasize about winning the lottery, meeting a dream girl or guy, living in luxury on a desert island. And that's all fine, but a dream is not a goal, it's not an
intention. An intention is a vision of the future which you are clear about achieving. It's a destination you know is out there and waiting for you to arrive at.
You don't need to know exactly how you're going to get there - the route is not so important - but
the image of where you're going should be clearly outlined in your
mind. It's been said that everything is created twice - first in the mind, and then in the world. Without a this vision, this mental creation, you will never get there.
Once you have a clear intention, the 'universal mind' will pick up on it and deliver it to you. But the important thing to remember is that
you need to feel
good, because this is your signal to the universe. The universe doesn't know what your intention is just because you've thought about it or put it into words or written it down. The universe only responds to 'vibrations' in the sense that the 'vibrations' you send out will cause other, similar vibrations to be attracted to it, and it is your feelings that bring about these vibrations you are emitting. So if you feel good about your intentions, this sends out a powerful signal to the universal mind and sets the whole universe in motion in such a way as to bring you closer to your intention.
Feeling good is everything! We're not talking about a 'high' here - feeling good is not about going out and getting drunk or taking drugs or doing other things that give you a 'buzz.' These things always have a 'come down' that negates any feeling of pleasure you might derive from them anyway. We're talking about a deep inner peace, happiness and joy.
So how do you achieve this? Well, feeling good is a natural and normal state to be in - you don't really need to do anything to get there. Just drop all the negative stuff and what’s left over is a feeling of peace and serenity. But having said this, it’s hard to just drop everything, so there are some techniques you can use to get the good feelings flowing. Here are just a couple of examples.
Appreciation. At the end of each day, make a list of everything that's happened during the day that’s made you feel good. What was nice about the day? Did you have a good conversation with a friend? Did you have a nice dinner? Was the weather pleasant? Make a list of all the things that made you feel good.
Abraham Hicks regards appreciation as the cornerstone of feeling good - so get into the habit! So many people spend all their time complaining, but when you get into the habit of appreciation, you’ll be amazed at how many good things there are in your daily life.
Feel good statements. Write down your intention, but in such a way that they make you feel great. For example, instead of writing, 'live in a large house,' add more detail to evoke good feelings. You could write 'I live in a beautiful, large home, set in a spacious garden full of wonderful, fragrant and colorful flowers. Sunlight pours into my house through the large windows, lighting up the space, and a cool breeze drifts through the spacious, open rooms, as I walk through the many beautiful areas I have created.' Try to imagine yourself there and feel great as you write and re-read these statements.
There are many more techniques which can use to make yourself feel great. There are some really great examples in the Manifest a Miracle system.
