But
this feeling is really an illusion. If you could put
yourselves in the place of those other, more 'successful'
people, you would find that they feel the same way.
But if you look back on the past - especially if you have been
working with the Law
of Attraction for some time - you know that many
of your desires have been fulfilled. Of course, you still have
unfulfilled desires - this is nature of life; it's the way
things were set up to be. As Abraham pus it, we are on the
'leading edge,' where new desires are constantly being born,
like waves coming in to the shore. Instead of feeling bad
about what we haven't yet achieved, we need to look forward
with anticipation and joy.
When the desire is
born, right away you start counting yourselves a failure,
because you've got this desire that hasn't been satisfied.
Know that you never get it done! And since you never get it
done, it's time to stop being unhappy about what's undone,
because most of it is undone! You are an eternal being. Most
of it is undone. Instead of taking score about what's been
achieved -- we want you to start feeling anticipation about
what is still to arrive... ~ Abraham Hicks (Excerpted from the
workshop in Spokane, WA on Wednesday, July 7th, 1999)
Find a way of
feeling good. This is the single most important thing
we can do. Feeling
good is what makes everything work. Our feelings are like
a transmitter to the universe - what we send out is what we
tend to attract back to ourselves, so cultivating
good feelings is vital. We are not talking about hedonism
or getting 'high,' but rather an abiding sense of joy, or what
Joseph Campbell would call 'following your bliss.'
Adopt a grateful
attitude.
Being grateful for what we have is so
important. It sets up the right kind of feelings. Gratitude
doesn't mean that we don't want more - it just means that we
are glad of our past experiences, we recognize the good in
what we have and we look forward to an even better future.
The great Roman emperor
Marcus Aurelius wrote, 'When you arise in the morning,
think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to
breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.' We should take
each moment as a gift and affirm the goodness of the present.
Where we put our focus is a choice. Look around at your life -
there is alot that is good. In this case, to quote Abraham,
'keep telling that story.'
A little bit of
dissatisfaction with the present is a good thing, I would say.
To want to achieve more gives us the vision and the energy we
need to bring forth new desires. But let's not get caught up
with what's wrong. To do so is to miss the most basic teaching
of the Law of attraction - we can get caught up with
negativity and end up telling the story of our life as we do
not wish it to be. How foolish! Start telling a new story, a
story about a wonderful new future.
Let's look forward with
anticipation, knowing that we never get it finished, there is
always more to experience. Indeed, this is what makes life
worth living. The future's bright. It always was.
